Overview
We offer a variety of professional development opportunities, each supporting the implementation of the K-5, Investigations in Number, Data and Space® curriculum. The audience for our workshops, institutes and on-site professional development includes teachers, math specialists, math leaders, and principals.
Workshops
Our workshops offer participants opportunities to explore mathematics, to examine children’s thinking, to hear their strategies, and to see their work and assess their learning. The mathematics sessions allow participants to deepen their own learning while focusing on the content of Investigations. They involve a combination of hands-on activities and discussions.

Investigations in the Classroom K-5
5 days
This workshop familiarizes participants with the mathematics content of Investigations. It focuses on the development of children’s mathematical understanding and teachers’ roles in classrooms: listener, learner, mathematical leader, decision maker, researcher, and facilitator of mathematics learning. This workshop is right for you if you’re a teacher who is implementing Investigations or about to start using Investigations in your classroom, including the new, Second Edition. Learn More » -
Building Computational Fluency K-5
5 days
This workshop examines the development of computation and number in Investigations. It focuses on two big ideas of computational fluency—counting and decomposing/recomposing numbers—and how these develop across the elementary grades. Learn More » -
Algebraic Reasoning K-5
5 days
This workshop focuses on how students reason algebraically in the context of number and operations, and how that reasoning develops throughout the grades. Learn More » Counting and Computation K-2
3 days
This workshop focuses on how students in grades K-2 make sense of numbers, the number system, and the operations. It also examines the teacher’s role in supporting the mathematical learning of all students. Learn More »Fractions, Decimals, and Percents 3-5
3 days
This workshop focuses on the rational number strand of the Investigations curriculum. Participants examine how students develop an understanding of the meaning of fractions decimals, and percents, compare their values, and use representations to add and subtract rational numbers. Learn More »
Institutes
Our institutes offer participants opportunities to focus on the implementation of Investigations at their schools, districts and/or buildings. They examine mathematics teaching and learning, the supports needed to successfully implement Investigations, and specific tools that help them do that. Each institute includes a combination of mathematics content sessions, hands-on activities, and role-specific sessions.
Implementation Institute
3 days
This three-day institute is for teams from schools/districts responsible for planning the implementation of Investigations in their districts. Teams experience the content of the curriculum, learn about different professional development models and resources for teachers, and design an implementation plan for their schools. Learn More »Principals’ Institute
2 days
This two-day institute provides principals and assistant principals an overview of Investigations, hands-on experience with the mathematics content, discussions about how to support and evaluate teachers, and ways to facilitate the implementation of Investigations in their buildings. Learn More »-
Professional Development Institute
3 days
This three-day institute is designed for math leaders and coaches who provide professional development for teachers implementing Investigations in their classrooms. This institute is currently in development. Please check back soon for more details. Learn More »
