FAQs

What are the workshop hours?

Typically, workshops run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday to Thursday, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. In some locations, these times may be slightly different. Your confirmation letter will indicate the workshop hours for the workshop you will attend. We ask those attending to arrive at least a half-hour early on Monday morning for registration.

Will we get lunch?

Most workshop sites do not offer lunch. Your confirmation letter will have specific information about lunch. A continental breakfast will be available each morning before the start of the workshop day.

Will we have homework?

Yes, homework is part of the workshop week. You will have reading assignments each night which you will then discuss the following day at sessions.

Can I get graduate credit and/or PDP (Professional Development Points)?

Yes. Graduate credit is available through the Northeast Consortium at Salem Sate College in MA. The cost for the three credits is $200. In addition to perfect attendance and participation, a five-page paper due Friday will be required. Workshop leaders will provide all the details on the first day of the workshop. For additional information on graduate credit, visit our Graduate Credit page.

All who attend the workshop will receive a certificate at the end of the workshop indicating the number of professional development hours attended.

Can I purchase Investigations units/materials at the workshop?

No. Investigations units, and materials that support it, are not for sale at our workshops. The curriculum, including the Second edition, was developed at TERC, and is sold by the publisher, Scott Foresman. You may also contact the publisher through their toll free number: 800-552-2259.

The workshop closest to me is closed. Can I get on a waiting list?

In most cases, if you call the Investigations Workshops line (617.873.9785) we can put you on a waiting list. Some workshops, however, are strictly limited to teachers from a particular school or district.

Our school is still using the First edition; will you support us?

Yes. Our workshops support schools/districts implementing the Investigations curriculum. We will continue to support those using the First edition of Investigations.

We will also support those who plan to use the Second edition of Investigations. Our Investigations in the Classroom workshop sessions will address all users, but each workshop will focus on either the First or Second edition. Check listings to make sure the workshop you are attending is right for you.

How do I know if what we use is 1st edition or 2nd edition Investigations?

In February 2007 the 2nd edition of Investigation in Number, Data and Space was published. All books published before 2007 are considered the 1st edition. The names of the units (books) are different, and while the content is not all that different, the 2nd edition, for example, includes a patterns and functions unit at each grade level.

Workshops designated 2nd edition are for participants using the 2nd edition. You will be asked to bring one or two books from your grade level from the 2nd edition. Workshops not designated 2nd edition, are assumed to be 1st edition and participants will be asked to bring one unit from their grade level from the 1st edition. The particular units will be specified in the letter sent out after registration.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations/Substitutions: Substitutions may be made up to the first day of the workshop. Cancellations may be made 21 days prior to the first day of the workshop in writing without penalty. Cancellations made less than 21 days prior to the first day of the workshop will result in a $100 cancellation fee. Any participant who does not attend the workshop but has not notified TERC with a written notice of cancellation forfeits the entire registration fee. TERC reserves the right to cancel a workshop if enrollment is insufficient. In that event a full refund of the registration will be made to the participant.
