Fractions, Decimals, and Percents 3-5

About This Workshop

This three-day workshop focuses on the rational number strand of the Investigations curriculum.

Participants will:
  • gain a better understanding of rational numbers
  • engage in activities from Investigations to understand how students make sense of rational numbers, and how they use their understanding to solve problems involving rational numbers
  • examine and use representations and equivalencies to describe and compare fractions, decimals, and percents
  • consider the role of estimation in making sense of rational numbers
  • analyze students' work solving problems involving rational numbers to consider how students reason and what they understand and don't understand about operations with rational numbers and how they relate to operations with whole numbers
  • look more deeply at the development of rational numbers at their grade level

This workshop is designed for teachers, grades 3 to 5, who have either been using Investigations as their primary curriculum or are new to Investigations.
