Exploring Geometry, K-5

About This Workshop

This five-day Exploring Geometry, K-5 workshop focuses on the development of 2-D and 3-D geometry in the curriculum.

Participants will:
  • explore properties of two- and three-dimensional shapes
  • relate 3-D shapes to their 2-D representations
  • develop strategies for comparing the size of shapes
  • relate the structure of shapes to ways of measuring area and volume
  • examine their own and students’ geometric understandings and strategies
  • explore the geometry software in the units
  • develop geometry vocabulary and definitions
  • discuss the development of spatial sense and geometric ideas across the grades

This workshop is designed for teachers who have either a) attended our Investigations in the Classroom workshop and are using Investigations as their primary curriculum, or b) have been using Investigations as their primary curriculum for at least two years.

Cost

Tuition fee is $600 per participant. There is an early bird fee of $575 for participants registered on or before May 1, 2008. Tuition includes a tote bag containing a three-ring-binder with all the workshop handouts.

Graduate Credit

Participants can apply for 3 graduate credits for a fee of $200 through Salem State College. Information and applications are available from workshop leaders on the first day of the workshop.
