Implementation Institute

This three-day Institute, offered by members of the Investigations staff, is designed to help schools/districts who are planning to implement or are implementing Investigations in Number, Data and Space® 2nd Edition. The Institute is for teams of 3-8 people who are responsible for mathematics curriculum and professional development. Teams should include a combination of district administrators, mathematics coordinators, math coaches, principals and lead teachers.

At this Institute participants will:

  • design an implementation plan tailored to the 2nd edition, or adapt an existing one
  • experience some of the content of the 2nd edition, with a particular focus on computational fluency, algebraic ideas in the elementary grades, and mathematical models and representations
  • explore features of the 2nd edition, including the Student Math Handbook, new tools for supporting the range of learners, and enhanced assessment support (e.g. benchmarks, Assessment Teacher Notes, and End-of-Unit Assessments)
  • learn about different professional development models and resources for supporting teachers, administrators, and families.

The Institute includes whole group and workshop sessions, panel presentations, and whole and small group discussions. Teams will also have time to plan together, and to learn from teachers, coaches, and administrators who are currently implementing the 2nd edition materials.

Please note that the Institute is not a "walk-through" of the curriculum materials and is not designed as a training for classroom teachers. In fact, past attendees whose primary role was classroom teaching have found that this Institute does not meet their needs. If you are interested in school-year or summer professional development for classroom teachers, see the Overview page, and Which Workshop is right for me?.

Cost

The Institute fee is $525.00 per team member. An early bird fee of $475.00 per person is also available. The Institute fee includes participation in Institute sessions, conference binder, additional resources, continental breakfast and lunch each day. Schools and districts are responsible for travel, accommodations and registration fees. Learn more about registration deadlines and hotel cost.

Cancellation/Substitution Policy

Any participant who does not attend but did not provide TERC with written notice of cancellation at least 24 hours prior to the first day forfeits the entire registration fee. TERC reserves the right to cancel the Implementation Institute if enrollment is insufficient. In that event, full refund of the registration fee will be made.

Application

Attendance at the Implementation Institute is determined by application. Team leaders fill out the online application form, which includes a list of team members, job titles, and email addresses. Because the Institute is designed for teams, applications from single participants are not accepted. Once received, applications will be reviewed. Notification of admission will be sent within two weeks. Once accepted, each team member will receive an email asking for complete contact information. Once received, team members will receive all Institute-related information. The team leader may make substitutions, or add team members if space is available.
