Professional Development Institute
About This Workshop
This three-day Professional Development Institute is designed for math leaders and coaches responsible for developing and delivering professional development for teachers implementing Investigations in Number, Data and Space 2nd edition. This is the first in a series of planned Professional Development Institutes. The focus for this Institute is on professional development for the first and second years of implementation. The Institute is for individuals or teams with a maximum of six per team from any school or district. At this Institute participants will:
- learn
how the curriculum
can be used as
a tool for professional
development
- consider
what are essential
professional
development offerings
for teachers
in the initial
years of implementation
- examine design
and facilitation
of professional
development sessions
to support teachers
using Investigations
- discuss
leadership issues
which impact
math professional
development
- experience sessions which participants can use in their own professional development program
The Institute is designed to support participants in using Investigations for professional development, and to familiarize them with some of the mathematics content of the curriculum. Participants will receive professional development materials based on the curriculum to use in their own sites. These materials include 52 Unit Guide sessions (one for each curriculum unit K-5) and professional development sessions, from 2-6 hours in length, for use with teachers across grade levels.
The Institute includes whole group and workshop sessions, panel presentations, and whole and small group discussions. Participants will also have time to plan and discuss how they will use the professional development materials at their own sites.
Please
note:
This Professional
Development Institute
is not designed
as a curriculum
